CTA® Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project
.
In 2005, the Chicago Transit Authority will embark upon their largest, most complex capital improvement project to date: the renovation of the stations of the Brown Line.
The main objectives of Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project, a program that will become the largest capital improvement project undertaken by the CTA® (surpassing even the Douglas Renovation Project, which was the largest up to that point), are to expand the line's overall ridership capacity by lengthening station platforms to accommodate eight rather than six-car trains, rehabilitate rail infrastructure and stations, provide for station enhancements to meet the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), upgrade or replace traction power, and signal and communication equipment.
