On its way out to O'Hare, the Holiday Train stops at Clark/Lake while the train's operator, Bruce Nelson, checks the doors
on November 28, 2003. Although the main purpose was to
transfer to the train to Rosemont Yard in anticipation of
the train's scheduled operation on the Blue Line the next
day, the train ran in service and carried passengers between Racine and O'Hare that night. (Photo by Graham Garfield) |

The CTA's Holiday
Train, a perennial favorite of Chicago children and adults
alike, is embellished a little more every year. Put together
with volunteer labor and staffed by volunteer
CTA employees, the
train travels to different lines throughout late November
and December each year. The 2005 Holiday Train is on a
layover at Midway terminal on December 18, 2005. (Photo by

Part of the traditional decoration of the interior of the Holiday Train are humorous car cards, with jokes, puns, and light-hearted messages. This one, inside the 2007 Holiday Train, notes that Santa and his reindeer take public transit too! (Photo by
